It’s day two of Reality Breached’s Music Awards! It might be the best overall day, who knows. Today we’ve got Best Pop Album, Best Surprise, and “Album We Kept Telling People to Listen To”. The winners here are solid! We hope you enjoy and don’t forget to check back tomorrow for Day 3.
Best Pop Album
–Nominees–
Halsey – hopeless fountain kingdom
Paramore – After Laughter
Ed Sheeran – ÷ (Divide) (Winner)
After Laughter, being Paramore’s first foray into pure pop music is bold, while Halsey’s follow up to her acclaimed debut is arguably her best work to-date. Any other year, Paramore and Halsey would be shoe-ins for this award, but Ed Sheeran’s pure grasp on what a pop song should be and his ability to make modern timeless music is unique to this generation.
Best Surprise
–Nominees–
Portugal. the Man – Woodstock
Marilyn Manson – Heaven Upside Down
Linkin Park – One More Light (Winner)
I know what you are saying. “If Chester was still alive, they wouldn’t have even made this list.” You might be right, but I can say that Rebre was high on One More Light well before his death. The idea that Manson would ever record listenable music again was foreign before Heaven Upside Down, and Portugal. the Man’s finally morphed their brand of weird into something truly special. However, as a bold stylistic departure and a final send-off, One More Light is the clear winner here.
Album We Kept Telling People to Listen To
–Nominees–
Charli XCX – Number 1 Angel
Echosmith – Inside a Dream EP
Nothing But Thieves – Broken Machine (Winner)
This category kinda became the catch-all for stuff we really liked and kept telling people to listen to, but could fit anywhere else. If we had spots for best EP and best Mixtape, Echosmith and Charli XCX would be the runaway winners. They both had great years. Charli’s “Dreamers” and Echosmith’s “Lessons” have been bumping since release. However, no artist got more Rebre recommendations this year than Nothing But Thieves. Broken Machine has its duds but they feel and sound like a band that’s poised to take over rock music in the coming years.
