2017 Rebre Music Awards (The Rebreys) – Day 1
It’s that time of year again! The time where publications get on their high-horses and throw awards at “deserving” candidates. Then we ring in the new year with a clean slate. Reality Breached is no different. We’ve got 5 days of music awards with the big finale on Friday being BEST ALBUM. Today we highlight the best in Alt-Rock and Pop/Punk and crown Most Tired album, enjoy!
Best Alternative Rock Album
–Nominees–
Walk the Moon – What if Nothing
Foster the People – Sacred Hearts Club
Imagine Dragons – Evolve (Winner)
Walk the Moon’s new album isn’t as good as their last and Foster the People might have outdone themselves this year, but had you told me Imagine Dragons would be getting an award this year, I would have laughed you out of the room. Evolve is a phenomenal album start to finish that is both edgy and listenable. The Dragon boys have completely redeemed themselves, I can’t wait to see what comes next.
Best Pop/Punk Album
–Nominees–
New Found Glory – Makes Me Sick
Hey Violet – From the Outside
All Time Low – Last Young Renegade (Winner)
Three really good albums this year made this decision tough. The Godfathers of Pop/Punk had yet another good release that harkened back to their Sticks and Stones days, while newcomers Hey Violet damn near won this award. However, ATL’s Last Young Renegade is a landmark album for the band. It highlights growth without sacrificing the core of their sound. It also helps that LYR is home to 2-4 of the best tracks this year.
Most Tired Album
–Nominees–
PVRIS – All We Know of Heaven, All We Need of Hell
Misterwives – Connect the Dots
Tove Lo – BLUE LIPS ([lady wood phase II]) (Winner)
We had high hopes for all three of these albums. Misterwives and Pvris had two of the worst cases of the sophomore slump we’ve heard in a while. Both those Albums are ok yet utterly unremarkable. Tove Lo’s Phase II of her “Lady Wood” sounds watered down and leans way too heavily into today’s worst Pop trends. It also abandons most of the hooks that made her two previous albums so good.
See you tomorrow for more of the Rebreys!
