It’s the First Annual Rebreys, Reality Breached’s new music awards. We’ve come to the last day, and this one’s a doozey. We have our most dubious award, Dumpster Fire of the Year and the mother of all awards, Best Album! Unlike previous categories, Best Album will have a Top 10 with the winner sitting on the top of a pile of great Albums.
Dumpster Fire of the Year
–Nominees–
Fall Out Boy f/Missy Elliot – Ghostbusters (I’m Not Afraid)
Sum 41 – 13 Voices
Korn – The Serenity of Suffering (Winner)
Everything about The Serenity of Suffering, the from the album cover, to the swampy guitars, to the complete lack of decent hooks, feels like a band that has no idea where its going anymore. There’s no growth in their sound and everything feels so by-the-numbers it just stinks of unnecessary-ty. At least that Fall Out Boy Ghostbusters song tried something different (boy did it crash and burn) but at least it tried. That Sum 41 album sounds like they failed at making a sequel to Chuck (which itself was an anomaly).
Best Album
–Top 10–
10. Bruno Mars – 24k Magic
09. Blink 182 – California
08. Chevelle – The North Corridor
07. Fitz and The Tantrums – Fitz and The Tantrums
06. Green Day – Revolution Radio
05. DNCE – DNCE
04. Butch Walker – Stay Gold
03. Two Door Cinema Club – Gameshow
02. Lukas Graham – Lukas Graham
01. Panic! at the Disco – Death of a Bachelor (Winner)
This was a hard choice. Any of the top 5 were deserving of winning Best Album, but how much fun would that be? This isn’t little league, everyone doesn’t get a trophy. Death, captured the essence of 2016 before we even knew what that essence was going to be. It might be the best Panic! album, and somehow both played it safe while taking huge risks. Congrats Brendon, your “band” won Reality Breached’s best Album award!
Tune in next year, hopfully I remember to put these together for 2017…ta ta.
