2016 Rebre Music Awards (The Rebreys) – Day 2
It’s the First Annual Rebreys, Reality Breached’s new music awards. This week we will be crowning the winners in 15 different categories. This is Day 2 and we tackle two more genres and Best New Artist!
Best Metal Album
–Nominees–
Metallica – Hardwired…To Self-Destruct
Drowning Pool – Hellelujah
Chevelle – The North Corridor (Winner)
This one was truely a toss up. Its is always good to hear quality Metallica, especially when its been 8 years since the amazing Death Magnetic. However, the always reliable Chevelle had their most Metal album in years, and in the end it was just more listenable. Drowning Pool gets a shout out for surviving four different lead singers and not skipping a beat. Hellelujah is hot!
Best Pop Album
–Nominees–
Fitz and the Tantrums – Fitz and the Tantrums
Tove Lo – Lady Wood
Bruno Mars – 24K Magic (Winner)
It may mask itself as a funk album, but 24K Magic is a pop album through and through. The hooks are infectious and the beats are jazzy. Mars has set himself a high bar to live up to, and seeing as he’s the only big named artist playing in his arena, he’ll probably sit on the throne a while. Lady Wood is a perfect follow up to Queen of the Clouds, and Fitz’ slow transformation into a pop act has not gone un-noticed.
Best New Artist
–Nominees–
I Prevail
The Chainsmokers
DNCE (Winner)
I did not see myself giving this award to a Jonas brother this year, but DNCE and thier debut blew the doors off the competition in this category. The album sounds modern enough to get radio play but classic enough to not be shunned by your 50 year old mom. The Chainsmokers made this list because of Closer, alone. Also, I Prevail successfully rode a Youtube Taylor Swift cover into a monster debut. If you are a modern rock kind of person, please check out Lifelines.
