It’s the First Annual Rebreys, Reality Breached’s new music awards. Over the next 5 days we will be crowning the winners in 15 different categories.
Best Alternative Rock Album
–Nominees–
Red Hot Chili Peppers – The Getaway
Butch Walker – Stay Gold
Two Door Cinema Club – Gameshow (Winner)
Both the Chili Peppers and Walker had incredibly solid releases this year, but the new Two Door Cinema Club is an inspired departure from both the genre and TDCC’s core sound. Its exciting, infectious and will get your feet moving. As a long time TDCC fan, Game Show feels like the band finally coming into their own. It keeps them from being stuck in their era, and opens their doors to go anywhere with their future releases.
Best Pop/Punk Album
–Nominees–
Green Day – Revolution Radio
Blink 182 – California
Panic! at the Disco – Death of a Bachelor (Winner)
Truth be told, the new Green Day has grown on me, and Blink’s California is way better than it really should be, but that Panic album is hype from start to finish. Even without airplay, on pop stations Death of a Bachelor has lingered on both sales charts and critic’s charts all year. The Brenden Urie Project finally pays off and he finally released an album that rivals their 2005 debut.
Most Tired Album
–Nominees–
Avenged Sevenfold – The Stage
The Lumineers – Cleopatra
Train – Does Led Zeppelin II (Winner)
That Avenged Sevenfold album is a bore…and that Lumineers album is quite disappointing, but Train remaking the entirety of Led Zeppelin II is a special kind of tired. Sure it was for charity and that should be applauded, and Train’s 14 year old version of Ramble On was amazing, but to redo an album song for song, note for note, taking nearly no creative liberties, is boring. If I wanted to hear LZII, I would just listen to LZII, that shit still holds up. For future reference, if you’re going to go whole-hog on a project like this, make it interesting.
There it is, day 1 in the books, tomorrow we tackle Best Pop, Best Metal and Best New Artist! Stay Tuned!!!!
