Get Your Hats Ready, Team Fortress 2 is Now Free to Play

Fresh off the announcement that Steam was to carry Free to Play games, Valve has announced that their seminal class based shooter Team Fortress 2 is free to play.

It been 4 years, hundreds of updates and millions of downloads but Team Fortress 2 has finally been released to the cheap PC masses.  As one of the largest PC gaming communities in the world, TF2 is already a phenomenon and making it free to play only expands it’s reach.  Valve has a history of supporting its PC titles through Steam for years and running steep discounts on their first party games.  This is a unprecedented move for Valve that is sure to please many.

I feel bad for developers of competing games like Brink or Monday Night Combat.  The game they are so desperately trying to imitate is now free.  Really, who’s gonna spend money on Brink now that the Citizen Kane of Class Based Shooters is free?
