2010′s Top Tech Gifts: Techpedition Approved Games for PS3
About The Products
The PS3 console is seriously lacking exclusive titles this holiday season. Outside of several Move specific games Sony’s release slate is made up of stuff being released on multiple platforms. With that said, we’re still gonna break down the Techpedition Approved Games for PS3 of holiday 2010.
Gran Turismo 5 – The long and I mean long awaited 5th entry in the Gran Turismo franchise is finally upon us. It is by far the most ambitious racing game to ever be released and boasts an unbelievably robust feature set. From Nascar to Cart racing, GT5 strays far away from its simulation roots, but still delivers a deep and detailed lifelike experience. With over a thousand cars to choose from, and about two hundred ultra detailed premium cars, car fanatics and race fans will find something in GT5 to dig. GT5 also holds the title of being the only triple A Sony published title of the holiday season…and it has 3D support.
Sly Cooper Collection – Sly Cooper, everyone’s favorite cartoon thief from the PS2 makes his current gen debut with a remastered (that terminology just sounds wrong) collection of his previous 3 adventures. Trophy support, 3D support and HD graphics accompany this remake that will keep you busy for days. Having sunk countless hours into the PS2 versions of these games, I know firsthand how good of a gift this collection will be. New PS3 owners with children can safely buy the Sly Collection knowing that your children will get a lot of play time out of it and at $40 the dollar to substance balance it tipped in the consumer’s favor.
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit – In other racing game news, Criterion (Burnout) is responsible for the newest Need for Speed entry and they give it a much needed injection of excitement. Also available on Xbox 360, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, has an enticing multiple tracking system and many of the standouts from Criterion’s unbelievable Burnout Paradise are in place. Players can play in two separate career modes, Cops or Robbers, with each being specifically tailored to the part being played. Gamers looking for a more arcade style racer with intense action and wicked crashes need to pick up Hot Pursuit for themselves and a loved one.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Game of the Year Edition – Yeah I know Uncharted 2 is a year old and many PS3 owners have already charted Nathan’s latest adventure, but the GOTY edition has a lot to offer especially on the multiplayer side. Players of the game know that Among Thieves had surprisingly long legs in the world of multiplayer so this release makes a lot of sense. This edition gives you extra content in the form of player skins, maps, and modes. It also has 4 animated motion comics and an Uncharted Pinball game for your PSP. It has all of that on top of the already proven fantastic Uncharted 2 game. This edition may be a tough sell to dedicated fans that already have most of the content included, but newcomers to the game will have a wonderful bounty on their hands.
Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition – Break out your Moves everyone, no not your dance moves, your Playstation Moves. RE5: Gold Edition while technically an old game has been patched to included support for Sony’s new motion controller. Anyone that has played RE4: Wii Edition knows how satisfying of an experience RE games are with proper point and shoot controls. It must be noted that the regular RE5 for PS3 does not have Move support, so when shopping remember to pick up the right version. This should hold you over until Capcom decides to make RE6.
So, the PS3’s line up this holiday isn’t too exclusive heavy, but remember that several great multiplatform gems are available like Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Fallout New Vegas. Don’t let this stop you from picking up a PS3 for a loved one. The back catalog is pretty impressive and next year all kinds of excitement are scheduled drop.
