Nintendo’s up to their old shenanigans again. In the tradition of many Nintendo published titles before them both Metroid Other M and Sin & Punishment Star Successor have officially been delayed.
Previously scheduled to arrive late June, Other M, the newest installment in the long running Metroid Series, is now slated to hit August 31st. Nintendo claims its so Team Ninja can polish the game properly, but I think its so Nintendo’s end of the year slate is stronger. I know August is technically not “end of the year”, but with it becoming increasingly obvious that we will not be buying the new Zelda game any time soon, Nintendo needs something to anchor their holiday sales.
Sin and Punishment will be stepping into Other M’s original release date of June 27th. While it is a noticeably smaller release than the new Metroid game, S&P2 has garnered alot of attention for its interesting origins. Originally released on the Nintendo 64, Sin and Punishment was a Japanese release that didn’t see a proper US debut until a few years ago on the Virtual Console. Yeah that’s right, Donkey Kong 64 is not on the VC but the bizarre and extremely niche title Sin and Punishment is…weird.
Either the VC version of the game did extremely well or Nintendo’s localization team got bored because S&P2 will see a full disc based release here in the states. After being well received at last years E3 its going to be interesting to see how Sin and Punishment 2 does at retail.
Metroid Other M will arrive in stores August 31st and Sin and Punishment Star Successor will be available June 27th. Presumably they will both be $50.
